Wedding Season
It's summer, and for the White folks, that signals cottage and camping season, but for the Desi folks, it means WEDDING SEASON!
Our weddings are interesting in that we have a minimum of 5 events - bridal shower, mehndi, mayon, wedding, and valeema. If you include dholkis and dance practices, that number can easily double. So what you're left with is a month-long extravaganza which comes to an abrupt end after the valeema.
Hash said it best when he told me before we got married, "the wedding is for everyone else, the marriage is for us." That was the most sound advice anyone ever gave me. Every bride has the tendency to go nuts over micro details, details that guests will never remember. For the brides-to-be out there, remember that it's not worth it to lose your mind over little things. Remember the big picture - your wedding is a one day event. Your marriage is what is going to last a lifetime. So sit back, delegate, and let other's take care of things for you. Focus on spending quality time with your family as this is the last time you'll be living with them.
