Movie update: Umrao Jaan (2006)

We finished Umrao Jaan. Hash's comment at the end summarizes the movie well, "Can it get any more depressing?!" We both liked it, though. It was sad, but the set, songs, costume, dialogue were amazing.

My only beef with Indian movies is that they make it too long... this could have been done in 2 hours if they eliminated some of the songs. (That's what we did, we just skipped most of the songs since Hash couldn't understand a word of it and there were no subtitles for the songs.) After a while, all the dance sequences appear the same anyway.

Hey, a note for the guy who writes the subtitles: stop, you suck! The translation stinks. Really. I was translating the dialogue for Hash because some of it was so off in the subtitles. I think they pick the lowest-paid, fobbiest translator to write the subtitles that are viewed by thousands of people worldwide.
